We prefer our old wooden dining room open to insert additional sheets YEEAR once without problems. The year of the 2 halves of the table away. No idea what / how flexible mechanism? Thank you.

Could it be that the screws are on the blades to close because of the aging wood or swelling. Try a small amount of space. If this works, clean the knife with a clean cloth to an accumulation, which helped to remove the glue. You will need a screwdriver slot, probably because w screws are not very old / Philips heads.
